June 28, 2026 - The Fair Oaks corridor came alive as neighbors, families, local organizations, and community leaders gathered to imagine the future of Altadena's historic Black cultural district. Together, they shared ideas for creating a greener, safer, and more welcoming corridor with more trees, safer crossings, stormwater solutions, and public spaces that honor the community's history while supporting future generations.
Community members also connected with representatives from the Altadena Town Council, LA County's Regional Planning, Senator Sasha Renée Pérez attended and as well as Miles from Assemblymember John Harabedian’s office. The strong turnout engagement reflects the deep pride residents have in Altadena and a shared commitment to rebuilding a corridor that is safer, greener and rooted in the community's vision for generations to come.
What Are PFAS - And Why Should Altadena Care?
PFAS are synthetic chemicals found in thousands of everyday products: cookware, electronics, carpeting, building materials. When the Eaton Fire burned through Altadena, those products incinerated and released PFAS directly into the soil. They are called forever chemicals for a reason: they never break down. Every rainstorm since January 2025 has carried them deeper into the ground and into the watershed that supplies our drinking water. The contamination is ongoing. And it is solvable.
